Week 1-Mobile Device and Social Networking

Were you ever in a hurry when you were doing grocery shopping and happened to wait in a long line? And you wished you could self-checkout with a small device such as an iPhone without having to go up to a register and pay? My entrepreneurial idea for IST 195 project is called “Hand-held Scanners.” Many people carry iPhone and there are many apps that you can download for fun, needs, or a reference. In today’s world, technology is advancing every minute and everyone is looking for something new and convenient every day.
Taking it a step further, if there was an app on iPhone where you can buy things without having to wait in line during your grocery shopping on busy weekends; your life would be much easier. Once you download this application you will be able to scan the bar code on things you want to buy and check out with a credit card or from your bank’s checking account. Not only do iPhones have an advantage of this technology but Android and Windows phone can also take advantage of this. If an app called “Self-Checkout” came out for Tablet PCs, such as iPads, not only would it be convenient but an advantage for everyone.
From Professor Rubin’s lecture last week, he talked about mobile device and social networking. Mobile devices such as smartphones, PDAs, and handheld computers or mobile computers such as table PCs could be used as “Hand-held Scanners”. People can simply download an app and then make comments on social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. Once they post their experience with this technology, more people will become aware of pros and cons of this technology. Once they read other people’s posts, it will help them decide whether or not to buy it.
